York Region Arts Council Awarded Prestigious Ontario Trillium Foundation Grow Grant

The York Region Arts Council (YRAC) has been awarded its largest funding ever for a single project courtesy of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Grow grant program. The grant will support the Artrepreneur program, a business accelerator program for artists, arts administrators and creative entrepreneurs. The OTF Grow grant was awarded for the purpose of delivering a project that builds on the success of a proven model or program with a $419,700 grant over 36 months. Learn More 

OAAG is currently developing an Election Advocacy Toolkit for our membership. You can provide input as they are interested in hearing more about what your organization would like to see included.

This year, we are committed to advocating for your organization during the Ontario provincial and municipal elections. Along with our efforts, the Election Advocacy Toolkit will provide you with the necessary information, guidance, and strategies to effectively advocate for issues that are important to you, and help bring about the changes that you would like to see in your community.

A new property tax class for "Creative Facilities" is on its way

On December 6, 2017 Toronto City Council voted to establish a new property tax class for "Creative Co-Location Facilities", which will make some arts and culture facilities, including numerous Artscape projects, eligible to receive significant relief from property tax bills pegged to market values. The best news is that this announcement, reported by Councillor Cressy, comes just in time for inclusion in the 2018 taxation year.

OOAG (Ontario Association of Art Galleries) holds AGM and Announces New Board of Directors

On Monday November 27, 2017, OOAG hosted their Annual General Meeting at the Power Plant Gallery.

They also announced new board members who will be working together to drive OAAG's mission forward to better service the membership and community.

The new board of directors for 2018 are:

York Lethridge
Ryan Rice

And Catharine Mastin as OAAG's Board of Directors President for 2017-2018:

Catharine Mastin is the Director of the Art Gallery of Windsor. Prior to joining the Gallery, she was Senior Curator of Art at the Glenbow Museum (Calgary) and Curator of Canadian Art at the Art Gallery of Windsor (Ontario). She received her PhD in History from the University of Alberta (Edmonton) in 2012 and held several major academic fellowships including a Doctoral Fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The University of Alberta also awarded her the Dissertation Fellowship, the Eleanor Luxton Fellowship, the President’s Doctoral Prize of Distinction and the Recruitment Scholarship.

3 Canadian Artists Sent to Compete for $10,000 Artsy Grand Prize and Exhibit at Scope Art Fair

Three artists were selected by an esteemed panel of judges in each city after a group exhibition at Winsor Gallery in Vancouver, Duran Mashaal Gallery in Montreal and Only One Gallery in Toronto. The winners competed against 56 of their peers after being selected by Artsy curators from the 2,577 submissions. The three finalists are: Vanessa Lam (Vancouver), Tina Struthers (Montreal), and Michael Vickers (Toronto).
