The York Region Arts Council (YRAC) is pleased to announce that Cathy Morton of East Gwillimbury was elected Chair of the YRAC Board of Directors at its recent Annual General Meeting. Cathy Morton has been a valued board member of YRAC since its founding in 2008 and also served as Chair of the 2011 Dinner for the Arts Gala committee.Cathy brings a wealth of volunteer and community service to the York Region Arts Council. She was the recipient of the 125th Governor General’s award for Volunteer Service. Cathy continues to be actively involved in her spare time as Chair of the Mount Albert Sports Day Committee and as a member of the East Gwillimbury Historical Society, Mount Albert Garden & Horticultural Society and the East Gwillimbury Friends of the Library.
“I look forward to my new role as Chair of YRAC and increased involvement in this important charitable organization” declared Cathy. “Our board and staff are committed to fulfilling our mandate to grow the arts in York Region.”
The regional arts council’s vision is to foster the growth of the arts and cultural sector so that it can achieve its creative, economic and social potential. It is taking a leadership role in marketing arts, culture and tourism in partnership with Metroland Media Group and the Regional Municipality of York. The arts council supports local artists, arts groups and businesses through marketing services, educational workshops and networking events. Plans are well underway for the 2nd annual 2012 Arts Exposed Arts & Cultural Conference.
