CALL FOR YORK REGION-BASED ARTISTS

The York Region Arts Council is excited to partner with the Upper Canada Mall to highlight artistic excellence in York Region through the creation of an art display!

Where: Upper Canada Mall

Theme: We are requesting the submission of artwork for display around the theme of Ontario Summers and Cottage Country.

Mediums: All mediums are invited to apply!

Submission Requirements:

  1. Images of the artwork you are submitting for consideration.
  2. Artist Resume and a short biography.

Please note that artists must reside in York Region. Please email your submission including the above requested information to info@yorkregionartscouncil.com.

Exhibition Timeline: Mid-June to Mid-September

Submissions Due: Monday, May 27th by 11:59 pm

Selection Process: Selections of artwork will be made by the York Region Arts Council in partnership with the Upper Canada Mall.

Notification to Artists: All artists will be contacted by Friday May 31 by 5:00 pm.

Art Drop Off/Pick Up Details: Selected Artwork can be dropped off at the Upper Canada admin office OR guest experience. The Upper Canada Admin office is open Monday-Friday 11-5 and is located on the Upper Level, near the food court between Aerie and La Vie En Rose. Guest Experience is located on the upper level, inside entrance 2 near Dynamite. Their hours are Monday – Friday 11-6 & Saturday/Sunday 11-7

Accepted Artwork: Accepted artwork will be hung on the wall as part of a display celebrating Ontario Summer. Artist credits will be displayed along with the artwork including name, social media handles and websites if applicable.

CALL FOR ARTIST COLLABORATORS

The Dance Together Project is looking for artists who are interested in collaborating on projects that include opportunities for community members to witness or join parts of the creative process (i.e. open rehearsals, community workshops, special events, etc.).

All projects will take place at Assembly Park Studios in Vaughan during Winter and Spring 2024.

The call is open to all artistic disciplines and artists who may benefit from access to space and have an interest in collaborative practices and community building through the arts.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL

The Very Useful Theatre Company is now accepting play submissions for the 8th annual Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays (NIFOAP) to be held Sept 5-8 2024 at the Old Town Hall Auditorium, 460 Botsford Street, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada.

Playwrights can enter one act play scripts via the submissions page on the website at www.oneactplayfestival.com or send directly by email to submissions@oneactplayfestival.com

Playwrights choosing to email directly without filling out the website form should include the following information with their submission:

  • Name of Playwright submitting the play
  • Title of the One Act Play
  • Playwright’s e-mail address
  • Playwright’s phone number
  • Playwright’s home address
  • Include a brief (2-4 sentences) description of the play
  • The number of actors needed (Indicate if there are specific casting requirements or if doubling actors is acceptable)
  • Solo Plays are accepted
  • Plays must be no more than 45 minutes in length
  • List any props special to your play
  • Indicate if your play has been published and where
  • Indicate if this will be a world premiere (first time performed on stage)
  • Include if any royalty costs for one performance required and dollar amount
  • Indicate if willing to have production live-streamed / video presented online if chosen
  • Agree to provide head shot image and small bio for online / playbill use if chosen

 

What We Are Looking For

All one act plays will be accepted however preferred are plays that have run times of between 20 – 45 minutes. Note: Please avoid entering 10 minute plays as this is not a 10 minute play festival.

Submissions will be accepted from Dec 1 2023 – January 31 2024.

CALL FOR ARTISTS: Regional Municipality of York Team Building Event

Date: December 5, 2023

Venue: Nobleton Lakes Golf Course

Time: During the day, exact time TBD

# of Participants: Approximately 100 

Project Goals:  The Regional Municipality of York is looking to hire an artist to design and facilitate a tile wall art piece which will be decorated collaboratively with staff. Approximately 100 Regional Municipality of York staff members will each paint a tile to make a unique piece of art to be added to an entire design on the wall of our affordable housing building. The wall space is approximately 60×80”. 

The goal of the activity is to have team building where all staff would paint a tile to complete the full wall design (mosaic, etc.). 

Additional Details: Tile and paint will be provided to participants by the Regional Municipality of York with input from the artist. The Artist’s honourarium will be negotiated directly between the Artist and the Regional Municipality of York.

Environments is a community artist project culminating in a curated art exhibition. York Region is one of the most diverse areas in Canada, with a long history of migration and settlement. We welcome participants, volunteers and art exhibition submissions of original artworks related but not limited to the following topics: land, conservation, Greenbelt, loss, hope, the perception of development, and urban sprawl.

Intended to showcase the culturally rich and artistically diverse vibrant art of the region, the exhibition limits submission to emerging and professional artists who reside or work in York Region. Artworks can include painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, textiles and mixed media.

ABOUT THE CURATOR

Christos Damianos is an independent curator, artist, and educator working between Toronto (Ontario) and Athens (Greece). He is also engaged with various art groups and not-for-profit organizations promoting Arts and Culture. He has participated in several community art projects in the Greater Toronto Area and abroad. He holds an Honors BFA from Western University, BEd and a Masters from Niagara University.
