Term: 2 years, with option to renew
Location: Hybrid (York Region + remote participation)
Time commitment: 4-8 hours/month
Following a period of organizational transition, we are actively recruiting new board members to join us in rebuilding and reimagining the future of YRAC. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the arts, bring fresh perspectives, and help us strengthen our impact across the region.
Role Summary
Board Members at YRAC provide governance, strategic guidance, and oversight while championing the arts and supporting organizational sustainability. Members contribute their time, expertise, and passion to support YRAC’s mission and help shape its future.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in regular board meetings (bi-monthly)
- Contribute to strategic discussions and decision-making
- Support the organization’s financial oversight, fundraising efforts, and policy development
- Serve on at least one board committee or working group (e.g., Governance, Fundraising, Programming)
- Act as an ambassador for YRAC in the community and help expand its network and reach
- Participate in board recruitment and succession planning
- Assist in securing resources, partnerships, or sponsorships when possible
- Maintain a strong understanding of YRAC’s mission, goals, and programs
Who You Are
We are looking for individuals who are:
- Passionate about arts and culture, and eager to support a regional arts ecosystem
- Committed to equity, community-building, and collaboration
- Willing to bring their unique perspective, lived experience, and/or professional skills
- Thoughtful, reliable, and ready to contribute to a working board
- Located in (or with strong connections to) York Region
We especially welcome individuals with experience in any of the following areas:
- Arts and creative industries
- Non-profit management or governance
- Marketing, communications, or public relations
- Fundraising, grant writing, or sponsorship
- Legal, financial, or HR expertise
- Community engagement or municipal partnerships
- Equity and anti-oppression work
No previous board experience is required — mentorship and onboarding will be provided.
