Term: 2 years, with option to renew

Location: Hybrid (York Region + remote participation)

Time commitment: 6-10 hours/month

As we enter a transformational phase, we are seeking a strong and collaborative Vice-Chair to support board leadership and help guide our strategic vision.

Role Summary

The Vice-Chair plays a key leadership role on the Board of Directors, working closely with the Chair to provide governance, direction, and support to the organization. This individual serves as a trusted thought partner to the Chair, supports board functioning, and may step into the Chair’s role as needed. The Vice-Chair is expected to contribute to succession planning and organizational growth, especially as YRAC continues its revitalization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Chair on setting board agendas, priorities, and meeting flow
  • Support effective communication and coordination among board members and committees
  • Step in to facilitate meetings or represent YRAC when the Chair is unavailable
  • Serve as a sounding board to the Chair and contribute to executive decision-making
  • Help maintain board accountability and alignment with governance practices
  • Lead or support special initiatives (e.g., strategic planning, partnerships, events)
  • Champion board member engagement, succession planning, and recruitment
  • Actively participate in board meetings and assume a visible leadership presence

Experience chairing meetings or leading governance processes is an asset. We welcome applicants from arts, nonprofit, business, or civic sectors.
